About SHIFT

The YFS SHIFT program works with young people who feel like their substance use is getting out of control, affecting relationships, impacting how they feel physically or mentally, or preventing them from achieving what they want out of life. They help young people to identify goals and develop a plan to lead healthy independent lives. SHIFT works in partnership with the Mater Young Adult Health Centre’s youth alcohol and other drugs service, Clarence Street.

Programs

SHIFT can help young people through individualised support, brief interventions, relapse prevention planning and tailored case management. The service aims to reduce harm associated with substance use by using harm reduction strategies that take into account personal goals and choices.

SHIFT provides tailored case management with a focus on:

  • working to address problematic substance use
  • working with families
  • help to re-engage in education, training, and/or employment
  • help with finding and/or maintaining a stable place to live.

SHIFT can help young people to arrange further support from Clarence Street, which offers an 11 day residential detox, day programs and Area 40 drop-in space.

Intake, assessment and referral

Open referral, anyone can make an appointment. YFS operates a central intake service which will direct referrals through to SHIFT.

Eligibility: Anyone aged 12 to 25 in Logan and the Redlands who identifies that they have a problem with alcohol or drugs and wants to make positive changes in their life.

The initial assessment will be conducted in person. Outreach intake is also available.
