The Alcohol and Drug Service provides treatment and support for individuals, their families as well as the community, who are experiencing problems related to alcohol and other drug use.
Programs
Outpatient detox: Outpatient detox is available for people (18 years +) seeking treatment for alcohol, cannabis, amphetamines, benzodiazepines and other substances of dependence.
Inpatient detox: The Hospital Alcohol and Drug Service (HADS) at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital is a state-wide service providing inpatient withdrawal or stabilisation for people (18 years +) with alcohol and other drug dependency.
Counselling: Counselling and support is provided to people with alcohol and drug concerns. Healthcare professionals provide a range of services including counselling therapies and group treatment programs.
Needle and Syringes Programs (NSP): This program will provide sterile injecting equipment includes needles and syringes, swabs and ‘sharps bins’ for the safe disposal of used needles and syringes. Sterile water and wheel filters are also available for a small fee. The 24/7 syringe vending machines are also available at Biala (Brisbane City), Redcliffe and Caboolture Community Health Centre which can dispense packs for free or for a small fee depending on availability
Opioid replacement therapy (ORT): For people (18 years+) who are dependent on opiates (e.g. heroin, oxycodone and morphine), methadone and buprenorphine are prescribed to replace the opioid substance/s. ORT is highly regulated and clients receiving this treatment will be registered with Medicine Management Unit (MMU).
Group therapy programs: A variety of group therapy programs are offered. Group therapy compliments individual treatment plans. Groups assisting with detoxification, preparing for change and building support networks are currently available. Your case worker will discuss the various group therapy options with you as you plan your treatment.
DABIT program: A nurse specialising in the treatment of alcohol and other drug related issues is available from 7:30am-4pm 7 days a week (including public holidays) at Redcliffe Hospital and Caboolture Hospital.

Intake, assessment and referral
Clients can self-refer by calling the service or have their GP or healthcare professional send through a referral on their behalf.
