Viva The Vagus: practical tips for trauma informed AOD care of refugees and asylum seekers

People from refugee and asylum seeker populations are currently under-represented in alcohol and other drug treatment services. This presentation explores possible reasons for the under-utilisation of AOD services and discusses ways to reduce barriers to accessing and retention in AOD treatment for people from diverse backgrounds. It is packed full of practical tips about how to make your clinical care more trauma informed and culturally capable.

Rosa Bibby is a credentialed mental health nurse, credentialed alcohol and drug nurse, somatic psychotherapist and yoga teacher who is passionate about trauma informed care. She is the Multicultural Mental Health Coordinator at The Prince Charles Hospital.
