About Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Community Health Service Brisbane (ATSICHS)

ATSICHS Brisbane is one of the largest Indigenous community organisations in Queensland and proudly remain community controlled and managed. They provide primary health care through the provision of GP Services, dental, child, family & maternal health, diabetes treatment and education, ophthalmology, optometry, podiatry and dietary. They also have an aged care facility, family and child safety services, social and emotional wellbeing and a youth service.

Programs

Deadly Choices: Aiming to empower Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to make healthy choices for themselves and their families – to stop smoking, to eat good food and exercise daily. Deadly Choices also encourages Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to access their local Community Controlled Health Service and complete an annual ‘Health Check’.Deadly Choices is a social marketing campaign that is made up of:

  • tobacco cessation programs
  • community events
  • sport and recreation
  • education programs
  • cooking programs
  • leadership camps
  • social media.

Deadly Choices also provides many programs throughout schools and community groups which include the healthy lifestyle, tobacco education, DC Fit and Good Quick Tucker programs. Our target age range is students and community members that are in Years 4 to 12 focusing in on prevention through education and awareness rather than treatment.

Deadly Choices are actively engaged in many regional and local community events across South East Queensland promoting a deadly choice is a healthy choice.
