About Wuchopperen Health Service

Wuchopperen is a not for profit, community controlled Aboriginal Health Organisation providing comprehensive primary health care services to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people of Cairns. Wuchopperen began providing health services in 1981 and has primary health care facilities in Manoora and Edmonton and a child wellbeing service in Atherton.

Programs

  • Women’s, Children and Maternal Health : Social and emotional wellbeing, Healthy Happy Families which focuses on respectful relationships and keeping children safe and secure
  • Men and Male Youth Health : Counselling and support
  • Alcohol, drugs and other substances advice and information
  • Youth Participation Program: funded by Youth Justice to provide Family Led Decision Making processes and meetings for young people involved in the Youth Justice System in order to address worries in relation to offending and to establish goals to address these worries.

Wuchopperen bulk bills, so there should be no cost in visiting one of the clinics. If you are referred to another doctor or organisation, please make sure you ask your health staff if there are any extra costs. They will try to refer you to other bulk billing services, however, in some cases you may have to pay for an external service.

Close to public transport

Sunbus offer a bus service from Palm Cove to Gordonvale. Transport is available for current clients who reside between Palm Cove and Gordonvale. Scheduled pick-ups must be arranged at least 24 hours prior to your appointment. Transport for urgent matters may be available on the day. To organise transport please call 4080 1000 or 4040 3100. You can also arrange transport when you are booking your appointment.
