About Southern Downs – Alcohol and Other Drugs Services (AODS)

The Alcohol Other Drug Services (AODS) is a free service providing support and professional assistance to people with their substance use goals. AODS also provides support and education for families, partners and friends of those having issues with these substances. AODS is a part of the Darling Downs Hospital and Health Services and more broadly Queensland Health.

Programs

This comprehensive program provides a range of services which include:

  • Counselling
  • Family support
  • Needle and syringe program
  • Opioid treatment
  • Consultation Liaison (Provide AODS support to GP and hospital staff in hospital and community settings to assist in coordination of treatment eg. Withdrawal detox or general enquiries)
  • Case management for AODS clients including brief intervention and counselling (Psychosocial)
  • Case management for QOTP w/ Toowoomba AODS (No QOTP prescriber in Southern Downs Alcohol and Other Drug Service)
  • Offer Nyxoid training and dispense Nyxoid sprays for harm minimalization
  • Provide outreach to other Hospitals and Multi-purpose clinics in the southern Downs region; eg Stanthorpe, Warwick, Inglewood, Texas, Millmerran and Goondiwindi · Engagement with other stake holders to inform of Southern Downs AODS services eg. Gp clinics, meetings with other NGO’s or government organisations in rural settings

Intake, assessment and referral

Open referral, anyone can make an appointment.

Intake assessments in person or over the phone.

We provide outreach to other Hospitals and Multi-purpose clinics in the southern Downs region, eg Stanthorpe, Warwick, Inglewood, Texas, Millmerran and Goondiwindi.

We can sometimes provide assistance with transport, if consumer is an active referral and within right reason to access services and needs transportation to another unit, can be arrange with patient travel services
