Gidgee Healing is a primary health care provider. They deliver culturally appropriate, high quality services to local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across an area of more than 640,000 km2. Their focus is on supporting Aboriginal communities in developing their own solutions to living long healthy lives; strengthening culture; and regaining our spirit.
Gidgee Healing has been delivering essential services to the Normanton community since 2014. More than 90% of the team live locally and 75% identify as Indigenous. The Normanton Recovery and Community Wellbeing Service (NRCWS) offers a range of treatment programs for people with problematic substance use, helping them live a healthy and happy lifestyle. Their services are designed to align with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander concepts of social and emotional wellbeing and provide a holistic approach to individuals’ needs and priorities.
Programs
Recovery
Non clinical rehabilitation and recovery support offered in a residential setting. Residential program domains align to Indigenous models of social and emotional wellbeing i.e. personal, social and family wellbeing; connections to culture and community; healthy lifestyle choices and balance; education and employment.
Linkages with Gidgee healing integrated service system are facilitated i.e. to Primary Health Care, Allied Health Services, Family Wellbeing, Deadly Choices.
Participants may be offered assertive outreach support of up to 3 contacts per week post exit.

Public transport access is limited; bus service to/from Cairns Tues, Thurs, Sat.
Regional air service to/from Cairns once daily; regional air shuttle service to Doomadgee, Mornington Island, Burketown and Mt Isa – once daily, M-F
Outreach services may be offered to participants who have undertaken a minimum 3 months residential program, if resources allow it.
