Programs

Breakthrough for Families Qld

Breakthrough for Families Qld is an information, referral and support program for family members, significant others and loved ones of people who are experiencing alcohol or other drug issues. Their team provide non-judgemental and confidential support to individuals, families and communities. They help family members and significant others to understand alcohol and other drug use, and what they can do to help their loved one. They can also provide strategies to make changes to their own circumstances, implement healthy boundaries and build resilience. Their experienced team can help families and significant others navigate the health system, and connect them to specialist workers and other health services. They also provide regular community information sessions for families on alcohol and other drugs.

Breakthrough Our Way

Breakthrough Our Way is a free program developed by Queensland Aboriginal Islander Health Council in partnership with Apunipima for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families affected by another person’s alcohol or other drug use. Families and community members can attend the information sessions and families can access ongoing support.

Creating Options

Creating Options is a twelve week treatment program for people who want help to address issues related to their alcohol or other drug use. Their team of specialists provide non-judgemental and confidential support through weekly counselling sessions and case management. They can help in areas such as relapse prevention, coping strategies, relationship skills, anger management, emotional regulation, mental health, and other life skills support. Creating Options can also help to coordinate care by engaging with existing healthcare and social services providers, or connecting to new providers. Their holistic approach means they help with all of the issues that might be contributing to, and maintaining, alcohol and other drug use. They work with each person to identify their goals, and provide practical solutions to make progress towards them.

Drug and Alcohol Assessment & Referrals

Drug and Alcohol Assessment Referral (DAAR) courses are available to defendants who identify substance use as a contributing factor in their offending behaviour but who may not be drug and/or alcohol dependent. During the course, drug and/or alcohol use is assessed, and can then receive counselling and education about the use of drugs and alcohol. If you’re assessed as drug and/or alcohol dependent, the course provider can refer you to more intensive treatment and support. The course is imposed as a condition of a bail or recognisance order.

Family Support Program

The Family Support Program works with families to improve the wellbeing and safety of their children and their family. Their family specialists offer individual case management and support groups to build the capacity of individuals, young people and their families to cope with adversity and overcome emotional and psychological harm. They also aim to reduce pathways to adult disadvantage by intervening early to address problems that might arise.

Get in the Zone Group

Using the ‘Zones of Regulation’ as a guide, this group aims to give you the skills to teach your child/ren how to identify their emotions using easy language; notice what emotions feel like in the body and use appropriate coping tools for those bigger feelings.

 Street Outreach Services

Their Street Outreach Services support people who are experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness to access services and achieve their goals. They provide non-judgemental and confidential support through referrals, information and a vital outreach of compassion. Their patrols visit parks, street sides and other accessible areas in the regions where we operate. Latest timetable available on https://vaks.mycommunitydiary.com.au/
