Programs

Our Mackay team offer alcohol and other drug treatment programs for people who want help to address issues related to their alcohol and other drug use. We also run community information sessions on alcohol and other drug use, as well as supporting families who are impacted by another person’s use.

Breakthrough for Families Qld

Breakthrough for Families Qld is an information, referral and support program for family members, significant others and loved ones of people who are experiencing alcohol or other drug issues. Our team provide non-judgemental and confidential support to individuals, families and communities. We help family members and significant others to understand alcohol and other drug use, and what they can do to help their loved one. We can also provide strategies to make changes to their own circumstances, implement healthy boundaries and build resilience. Our experienced team can help families and significant others navigate the health system, and connect them to specialist workers and other health services. We also provide regular community information sessions for families on alcohol and other drugs.

Breakthrough Our Way

Breakthrough Our Way is a free program developed by Queensland Aboriginal Islander Health Council in partnership with Apunipima for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families affected by another person’s alcohol or other drug use. Families and community members can attend the information sessions and families can access ongoing support.

Police Court Diversion

Police drug diversion is a legislated diversion program that allows police to offer an eligible person with the opportunity to participate in a drug diversion assessment program, as an alternative to prosecution. Police drug diversion does not decriminalise or legalise the possession or use of cannabis.  A drug diversion assessment program is a brief health intervention that helps people address their drug use and associated offending behaviour.

Drug and Alcohol Assessment & Referrals

Drug and Alcohol Assessment Referral (DAAR) courses are available to defendants who identify substance use as a contributing factor in their offending behaviour but who may not be drug and/or alcohol dependent. During the course, drug and/or alcohol use is assessed, and can then receive counselling and education about the use of drugs and alcohol. If you’re assessed as drug and/or alcohol dependent, the course provider can refer you to more intensive treatment and support. The course is imposed as a condition of a bail or recognisance order.
