About Cherbourg Community Health – Alcohol and Other Drugs Services (AODS)

AODS is a free service providing support and professional assistance to people having problems with alcohol, tobacco or drugs. AODS also provides support and education for families, partners and friends of those having issues with these substances.

Programs

  • AOD assessment, treatment, review and referral service, some blood tests and screening on request
  • Coordinate five-day hospital detox program for simple alcohol detox and transition to rehab following detox
  • Link to counsellor for individual or family therapies including motivational interviewing to support long term change and goal attainment
  • Community Engagement Programs (brekky program, volatile substance misuse drive, monthly barbeque)
  • Drug and alcohol information sessions for schools, parents/carers, agencies and community
  • Smoking cessation support including samples of nicotine replacement therapies, information, friendly behaviour change planning, and referral to Quitline
  • AODS clinic at Probation and Parole -Cherbourg and Murgon Courthouses
  • FASD education.

Intake, assessment and referral

Self-referrals and referrals from a doctor or other agency are accepted. Concerned relatives and friends can make enquiries and will be offered support. Patients will need to make an appointment and this can be done by phoning or by attending an AOD unit.
