ATODS provides a diverse range of services that support Far North Queenslanders to make informed choices about alcohol, tobacco and other drug use through the provision of quality public health and clinical interventions which are evidence based and reflect contemporary best practice.
Cairns ATODS consists of the following teams:
- Cairns Community ATODS
- Opioid Replacement Team
- Hospital Consult Liaison Team
- Alcohol Diversion Program
- Day Withdrawal Service
- Indigenous Youth ATODS
- Needle and Syringe Program (NSP)
- Innisfail Community ATODS
- Tablelands Community ATODS
- Mossman Community ATODS
Cairns Hospital & Hinterland Health (CHHHS) ATODS is a multidisciplinary team consisting of Administration Staff, Clinical Nurses, Program Officers, Allied Health Staff and Medical Officers.
CHHHS ATODS provides outreach to rural and remote areas which include:
- Innisfail Community ATODS provide outreach to Babinda, Tully and Mission Beach
- Mossman Community ATODS provide outreach to Port Douglas and Cow Bay
- Tablelands Community ATODS provide outreach throughout the Tablelands area
Programs
• Free and confidential counselling and psychology services to anyone seeking help with alcohol and other drugs
• Assisting withdrawal of alcohol and drugs
• A home withdrawal service (conditions apply)
• Support groups
• Educational groups
• Therapeutic groups
• Nursing and medical assessments
• Withdrawal services to people in the watch house
• Biopsychosocial assessments
• Support to families affected by drug and alcohol addiction and drug diversion (a police or court mandated program).
Intake, assessment and referral
Referrals are accepted from GP’s, other services, self-referrals, family members and court services/orders.
