Brisbane Youth Service (BYS) is a specialist youth service offering coordinated case management, alcohol and other drug support and homelessness support to young people aged 12-25.
With a vision to provide ‘New Futures for Young People’, BYS has been operating in Fortitude Valley since 1977. In that time BYS has helped tens of thousands of young people experiencing homelessness or at risk of becoming homeless, and their accompanying children.
BYS offers flexible services onsite at their Fortitude Valley Hub, or at a number of other BYS sites across Brisbane. BYS also offers a mobile outreach service to a person’s home or other safe place around the Inner City area.
Programs
BYS assists young people who are interested in exploring their substance use, or wanting to make changes to their use. This service is underpinned by a harm reduction philosophy and provides:
• One-on-one direct support and case management
• Counselling
• Referral to other specialist services including detox & rehab services
• Education (with a focus on health and harm reduction)
• Relapse prevention support
• Group based programs
• Needle and syringe exchange program for young people
Intake, assessment and referral
Open referral, anyone can make an appointment. Once a referral is received, BYS undertakes an initial screening assessment through a follow-up phone call or in person appointment.
Outreach intake available for visiting a person at home or in public spaces where they feel safe.
Additional information
BYS offer services to support homeless and vulnerable young people, and their children, to secure and maintain housing, address physical and mental health issues, establish successful relationships and support networks, and access pathways to education and employment.
