About Toowoomba – Alcohol and Other Drugs Services (AODS)

The Alcohol Other Drug Services (AODS) is a community focused service for anyone affected by alcohol, tobacco, cannabis, opiates, amphetamines, inhalants and prescription drugs. AODS is a part of the Darling Downs Hospital and Health Services and more broadly Queensland Health. This comprehensive program provides a range of services which include:

  • assessment
  • treatment
  • follow up
  • information and referral
  • community education
  • prevention activities
  • health promoting activities

Programs

  •  Counselling is offered to clients and information and support is available to partners, relatives and friends. Programs are tailored to suit the individual and address practical difficulties, anxiety and the physical symptoms often associated with substance withdrawal. A holistic approach to treatment means working to address any underlying issues that a person may be facing. All clients have their own case manager and are seen on an individual basis. Group sessions may be offered later in the treatment and are optional.
  • Medication assisted treatment
  • Withdrawal management
  • Needle and syringe program
  • Opioid Treatment

Intake, assessment and referral

Self-referrals and referrals from a doctor or other agency are accepted. Concerned relatives and friends can make enquiries and will be offered support. Patients will need to make an appointment and this can be done by phoning or by attending an AOD unit.
