Motivational interviewing is a collaborative, goal-oriented style of communication with particular attention to the language of change, and is a highly recommended, evidence-based approach to helping people address their substance use behaviours. It is recommended for all practitioners based in AOD and mental health settings who provide direct support to people experiencing substance use concerns.
The Motivational Interviewing training in the Virtual Classroom format is broken into 4-part modules, with each session focusing on specific M.I. skills or topics. Each module comprises one self-directed eLearning and one Zoom session. Following the virtual classrooms, participants are invited to take part in “follow-up” Zoom calls scheduled throughout the year. In these follow up calls, participants will be able to seek additional feedback after applying their new M.I. skills in direct practice.
