Clinical/practice supervision in alcohol and other drugs settings online learning
This online course is part of a collaboration between Queensland Network of Alcohol and Other Drug Agencies (QNADA) and 360edge. It is designed to compliment one day face to face workshops for new and existing clinical/practice supervisors and supervisees. It can be used as a primer before you attend face to face supervision training, or as a refresher afterwards.
This course is divided into four parts (modules). Modules are interactive and contain embedded resources, videos, and other items you can activate to explore more information. Be sure to click around to get the most out of the modules!
Module 1 – Clinical/practice supervision and why it’s important
- introduces the origins of clinical/practice supervision, some of the factors that have impacted the uptake of supervision within the AOD context, and defines clinical/practice supervision as distinct from management/operational supervision
- details the benefits of engaging in clinical/practice supervision, not only for the worker, but for clients and organisations.
Module 2 – Effective supervision
- details the factors that predict the impact and effectiveness of clinical/practice supervision.
Module 3 – How supervision work
- details the main functions of supervision and the tasks that supervisors and supervisees need to perform
- outlines several theoretical models of supervision that guide practice.
Module 4 – Getting practical
- explores how negotiating mutual responsibilities and supervision contracts can assist with supervision
- details how goal setting and taking a structured approach to organising sessions benefits supervision
- explores the types of practical and ethical challenges that can arise in supervision and how to manage them.
