Juwarki Kapu-Lug was created in 1993 in response to the recommendations of the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody. Its role is to deliver social justice, drug and alcohol support services to the indigenous community of Rockhampton. The provision of support services to the Capricornia Correctional Centre and Police Watchhouses.
Programs
- Edward Chubb Diversionary Service – A fifteen bed Diversionary Centre, providing sobering up services for adult individuals who are at risk to themselves or others as a consequence of their intoxicated state. Accomodation is provided via seperate, gender appropriate, dormitory-style facilities.
- Cell Visitors Service
- Elders Visitation Service
- Murri court/Community Justice Group
Intake, assessment and referral
Referrals can be made by the police, courts and the person and their family members or friends
