About Open Doors Youth Service

Open Doors Youth Service provides support to young people with diverse genders, sex and sexualities. They support as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, Queer, Asexual, Pansexual, Sistergirl, or Brotherboy (LGBTIQAP+) young people aged 12-24 across Queensland.

Programs

Alcohol and Other Drug Youth Workers and Supports

Open Doors delivers an alcohol and other drug program for LGBTIQAP+ young aged 12-24 years who experience or are impacted by moderate to severe problematic alcohol and other drug use who live in North Brisbane. Support may extend to South Brisbane if there is capacity.

The program also has an identified Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander worker who can provide cultural support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander LGBTIQAP+ Sistergirl and Brotherboy young people.

This program provides

  • AoD screening and assessment
  • Individual support and goal planning
  • case management and care coordination
  • Collaborative goal-oriented treatment planning focusing on strengths resilience and protective factors
  • Provision of harm reduction information, psychoeducation, and safety planning
  • Brief interventions utilising motivational interviewing and cognitive behavior therapy
  • LGBTIQ youth social groups that facilitate connection to peers
  • Facilitate access to relevant LGBTIQ health and wellbeing information and resources
  • Individual advocacy and system navigation
  • Supported referrals to complimentary services and supports
  • Emergency food, toiletries and clothing (where stock allows)
  • Facilitate access to mental health support

Intake, assessment and referral

Open Doors accepts referrals from any source.  Referrals can be made via the online form https://www.opendoors.net.au/referral-form/, emailing referral@opendoors.net.au or calling 07 3257 7660.  All new referrals will be required to participate in an intake appointment before accessing support.

Additional information

Outreach support is available, however no in-home appointments can be provided.

The Open Doors AoD program co-facilitates a number of LGBTIQ youth groups at outreach locations, including Redcliffe and Caboolture.
