SUMMARY:Get funded: Is your social purpose organisation 'funding ready'? - Redlands
DESCRIPTION:A funding opportunity—whether that be a grant application\, tender application or pitch to a funder—should be the summary of a detailed planning and service design process with a clearly articulated model and logic. We are forever advising social purpose organisation to take the time to design their program or service model first before thinking about matching it to funding opportunities. \nThis workshop provides an opportunity for social purpose organisations to build their knowledge in a simple three step approach to effective funding submissions: \n\nDefine the issue – is there a genuine need for your program or service?\nPresent the solution – why will your solution work?\nDescribe your strengths – what sets you apart from your competitors?\n\nGet Funded has been developed with practicality in mind\, focusing on the key components of the concept development process. Participants will have the opportunity to interact with the facilitator\, ask questions along the way and learn from others working in similar areas. We regularly work with funding providers and commissioning organisations\, so we have a thorough understanding of what funders are looking for. \nWe encourage workshop participants to stick around after the session to network over a complementary tea\, coffee\, beer or wine. Networking with other likeminded people and organisations is a great way share learnings. \nMore info and regos at: https://evaluation_ready_redlands.eventbrite.com.au

SUMMARY:Webinar: Smoking among disadvantaged and vulnerable groups with Dr Veronica Boland
DESCRIPTION:The Alcohol and Other Drugs Knowledge Centre is hosting a free webinar on Thursday 6 February 2020 with Dr Veronica Boland from the National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre (NDARC) and will follow with an open Q & A session. The webinar will run for approximately 40 minutes and is free to attend. \nThe disparity in smoking prevalence between the most and least advantaged Australians contributes to health inequalities. Understanding the experiences of quitting smoking from the perspectives of smokers from socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds provides key insights into the factors that inhibit and promote quitting behaviours. In this webinar\, Dr Veronica Boland will present research findings conducted with socioeconomically disadvantaged smokers from a national randomised controlled trial (RCT) and a feasibility study into the use of e-cigarettes for smoking cessation. The webinar aims to inform healthcare workers and reAlsearchers about key barriers to quitting and future directions for quit smoking support. \nThere is no additional software required to join the webinar\, other than a stable internet connection. We’d recommend that you use Google Chrome to view the webinar. \nThe webinar will be held at: \n\n1:00pm (NSW\, Vic\, Tas and ACT)\n12:30pm (SA)\n12:00pm (Qld)\n11:30am (NT)\n10:00am (WA).\n\nAccess the webinar online here (please note the session will open approximately 10 minutes prior to the start time). \nParticipants are invited to register their interest prior to the event with the webinar organiser Vilma FitzGerald (contact details below). \nPlease note that this webinar will be recorded\, and will be made available on the HealthInfoNet website at a later date.

SUMMARY:Webinar: Synthetic Cannabis - Information for Healthcare Professionals with guest presenter Dr Stephen Bright
DESCRIPTION:The Alcohol and Other Drugs Knowledge Centre is hosting a free webinar on Thursday 13 February 2020 with guest presenter Dr. Stephen Bright from the National Drug Research Institute at Curtin University and will follow with an open Q & A session. The webinar will run for approximately 40 minutes and is free to attend. \nIn 2011\, synthetic cannabis products containing synthetic cannabinoid receptor agonists were being sold in Western Australia (WA) as “kronic”. Initial legislative responses led to increased harm due to the inadvertent promotion of products containing new synthetic cannabinoid receptor agonists that were more harmful than those first banned. After more than 40 state and federal legislative changes\, overall rates of synthetic cannabis use in WA have fallen; though there is evidence to suggest the use of synthetic cannabis remains an issue among some marginalised populations and remote communities. This webinar will provide an overview of how synthetic cannabis emerged as a drug of concern in WA. In doing so\, information will be provided to assist healthcare professionals to identify and respond to synthetic cannabis use. \nThere is no additional software required to join the webinar\, other than a stable internet connection. We’d recommend that you use Google Chrome to view the webinar. \nThe webinar will be held at: \n\n1:30pm (NSW\, Vic\, Tas and ACT)\n1:00pm (SA)\n12:30pm (Qld)\n12:00pm (NT)\n10:30am (WA).\n\nMore information can be found here. \nAccess the webinar online here (please note the session will open approximately 10 minutes prior to the start time). \nParticipants are invited to register their interest prior to the event with the webinar organiser Vilma FitzGerald (contact details below). \nWebinar Organiser\nVilma FitzGerald\nSenior Research Officer\nAustralian Indigenous HealthInfoNet\nPh: (08) 6304 6328\nEmail: v.**********@*****du.au \n  \nPlease note that this webinar will be recorded\, and will be made available on the HealthInfoNet website at a later date.

SUMMARY:Alcohol and the social determinants of health: an equity lens on interventions with guest presenter Dr. Jane Fischer
DESCRIPTION:The Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) Knowledge Centre will be hosting a free webinar on Thursday 14 May 2020 with Dr. Jane Fischer from the National Centre for Education and Training on Addiction (NCETA) titled ‘Alcohol and the social determinants of health: an equity lens on interventions’\, and will follow with an open Q & A session. The webinar will run for approximately 40 minutes and is free to attend. \nAlthough Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are more likely to abstain from alcohol and less likely to consume alcohol at risky levels than non-Indigenous people\, why is alcohol associated with a disproportionate amount of harm? \nDrawing on work undertaken by the Australian Indigenous Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) Knowledge Centre\, and others; this webinar considers the relationship between alcohol\, inequity\, and the social determinants of health. Subsequently\, through an equity-lens\, it examines the effectiveness of interventions aimed at reducing alcohol-related harm and how the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander AOD workforce can be supported. \nThe webinar will be held at: \n\n12:00pm (NSW\, Vic\, Qld\, Tas and ACT)\n11:30am (SA and NT)\n10:00am (WA).\n\nRegister for this webinar here.

SUMMARY:Screening for problem gambling - register now for live webinars in June (Lives Lived Well)
DESCRIPTION:Supporting people with gambling concerns during COVID-19 and beyond\nDo you or your colleagues work with people who may have gambling concerns? Would you like to learn more about: \n\nhow to screen for problem gambling\ninitiating a conversation about gambling\nsupport services for people with gambling concerns?\n\nThe impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic are yet to be fully known\, but there are concerns that problem gambling could increase due to: \n\na greater need for distraction to de-stress and manage anxiety\nmore time\, access and need for online gambling options\na surge in activity when gambling venues reopen with a relaxing of restrictions.\n\nAs a result\, it is crucial that we are prepared for a likely increase in people experiencing problems with their level of gambling. To do this\, we need to be able to screen for it\, know what to look for\, feel comfortable in starting a conversation about it and know what supports are available. \nTraining in screening for problem gambling \nSince 2017 the Queensland Government has funded Lives Lived Well to deliver face-to-face workshops and online training\, to provide allied health professionals and community sector employees with the skills to better recognise and support people with gambling concerns. Research shows there is a high comorbidity among people with alcohol\, drugs and mental health concerns\, and problem gambling. The effectiveness of treatment for one problem can be jeopardised if comorbidities are not also identified and addressed. \nLive webinars in June \nIn response to COVID-19\, we are now offering this 90-minute workshop as a live webinar.  If the time of these webinars does not suit\, the workshop can also be completed online at a time of your choosing by visiting LLW’s online learning system https://liveslivedwell.docebosaas.com/lms/. \nTo register for the webinars\, please follow the links below: \n\nWednesday 17 June\, 10:00am – 11:30am\nThursday 18 June\, 11am – 12:30pm\n\nFace-to-face training \nPost COVID\, our Manager (Clinical Services) Gambling\, Gerard Moloney\, is also available to deliver this workshop as a free face-to-face training event for your organisation or community of support workers. \nMore information \nFor more information about the workshop and training\, please contact our Training team by emailing tr******@*****rg.au
